It controls the hardware among various application programs and also acts as a resource allocator. It also controls the user program to avoid errors and prevent computers from damage.

Virtual money – It is time-sharing hardware technique where the system appears to have more memory but actually, it has less memory.
Throughput- the total number of process, which completes their execution per time unit.
Turnaround time- the total amount of time required to execute a process.
Waiting time- It is a amount a time the process has been waiting in the ready queue.
Response time – the amount of time it takes to complete the first request and being processed.
Thrashing – It is caused due to the under allocation of the minimum pages required for the process. It is reduced by the level of multiprogramming.
Software interrupt- It is also called as a trap, which is a program generated interrupt. It stops the present processing as a request from the CPU. It controls the events of the CPU.

Multiplexer – A combinational device or circuit, which selects the one, input from many of the input lines and direct the output to the single output line. There will be 2n input lines and n select lines which leads to a single output line.
Flip flops- It is a device in the bi-stable state. Bistable state is a state where the device be in either of the two state. The output value of the flip flop will be either high or low. It stores in the binary form either 1 or 0. Different types of flip flops are:
- SR flip flop – In this flip flop the state of the output are not predictable since both the inputs are high.
- JK flip flop- In this flip flop the state of the output will be the complement of the previous state when both the inputs are high.
Buffer memory – It is a small portion of the primary memory. When data item need to be changed first it should be copied into the buffer memory, after the required changes the data is written back into the permanent storage.
Firewall – To secure the network and to protect it from the virus attack a firewall is introduced. Crackers on the internet break the confidentiality of any organisation and harm the whole entire network system and access the data to prevent from all the cyber crime, this technique was introduced. These firewall allow to access any corporate user but it stops the hackers.
