SECURITY NETWORKS SERVICES/Measures– Computer Awareness IBPS SBI PO : Nowadays computer knowledge is quite essential to everybody. Any educated person without Computer Knowledge will be treated as Computer-illiterate. Security network services is also part of computer awareness. Security is about well being and about protecting property or interests from instruments, stealing or wire-tapping. Security is thus based on the following independent issues:

Privacy : the ability to keep things private/confidential.
Trust : Do we trust data from an individual or a host?
Authenticity: Are security credentials in order?
Integrity: Has the system been compromised/altered already?

RBI committees for the security controls

Jilani committee recommendations : it was recommended that the information system audit needs to be brought under inspection departments of banks.
Narasimham committee: the committee reiterated the importance of IS audit in banks.
Vasudevan committee; the committee has underlined the importance of computerization and computer resources and suggested ways to embrace it.

Digital Signature

Authentication of electronic records electronic governance.
Legal recognition of electronic records.
Legal recognition of digital signature.
Retention of electronic records.
Publication of rules, regulation etc.

Data mining

Data mining is the process of extracting patterns from data. Data mining is seen as an increasingly important tool by modern business to transform data into an information advantage. A primary reason for using data mining is to assist in the analysis of collections of observations of behaviour. Data mining commonly involves four classes of tasks:

Clustering: It is the task of discovering groups and structures in the data that are in some way or another “similar”, without using known structures in the data.
Regression: attempts to find a function, which models the data with the least error.
Classification: is the task of generalizing known structure to apply to new data.

A data warehouse is a repository, which stores integrated information for efficient querying and analysis. Data warehouse has data collected from multiple, disparate sources of an organisation. It is the basis for decision support and data analysis.

Analysis requires millions of records of data, which are historical in nature.
Data is collected from heterogeneous sources.
Need to make quick and effective strategic decisions.

Characteristics of data warehouse

Subject oriented- means all data that are collected are stored in a single unit.
Integrated – means that data from multiple disparate sources are transformed and stored in a globally accepted fashion.
Static/ non-volatile – means data once entered into the warehouse does not change.
Time variant: data warehouse maintains historical data which are used to analyze the business or market trends and facilitate future predication’
